Break out of the studio and create by the water.
The shores of the Mt Beauty Pondage will burst into creative life on Tuesday, 15 December 2026, for The Art Day Out, a free community art festival running from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Breaking down the traditional walls of galleries and studios, this unique event invites artists of all skill levels, including those who have never picked up a brush, to create together in the open air.
Inspired by television’s Landscape Artist of the Year, the festival focuses heavily on active community participation, stripping away the intimidation often associated with art. Attendees can move freely between open-air stations, learning by doing and observing. Local lead artists and members of the Alpine Arts Trail will work side-by-side with the public. Create with whatever you like, including sketching, charcoal, water-soluble pens, watercolour and leaf printing, singing, playing, writing, or maybe you’re a performer.
The entire landscape will serve as a dynamic backdrop and creative muse, as participants capture the movement and atmosphere of the environment.
Beyond the art-making, the festival promises a lively, social atmosphere for the whole family. Visitors can enjoy live music and performances, take advantage of on-site photography coaching, and refuel with Devonshire teas served by the Neighbourhood Café, or at Honeybird Cafe on Embankment Drive.
The event will also offer a sneak peek at the upcoming March 6-7th long weekend
“Open Studio Art Trail”.
The Art Day Out is a completely free event, and no registration is required, BYO materials.
Community members and visitors are encouraged to simply show up with a sketchpad or paper, a support board, their favourite mediums, and outdoor essentials like a folding chair, hat, and sunscreen.
